TN Police S.Inspector Vetrivel died in front of Ministers and Collectors

A police sub inspector who died after being attacked by a gang in Tirunelveli district on Thursday allegedly failed to get help from Media (cameraman stood, recording the event ) & two ministers who were passing by in their cavalcade. Police said R Vetrivel, 44, was a victim of mistaken identity and the assailants were after another police officer. The gang threw crude bombs at Vetrivel, severely injuring his right leg. Vetrivel was then attacked with sickles, suffering deep injuries on his neck and head. Tamil Nadu Public Health Minister MRK Panneerselvam and Minister for Environment, Youth Welfare and Sports TPM Moideen Khan allegedly watched and failed to help R Vetrivel, a decorated police officer, who bled top death after being attacked by gangsters. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a Tamil Nadu sub-inspector, whose death has sparked a controversy after allegations that timely help was not provided to him despite two state ministers seeing him lying bleeding on a road. State Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) K Radhakrishnan, who visited the scene of the attack, told reporters in Tirunelveli yesterday that three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder. Vetrivel (44) was bombed and hacked in a case of mistaken identity on Thursday in Alwarkurichi by a gang over a family feud involving another sub-inspector Sivasubramanian. A search was on for 11 persons, including Sivagami, wife of Sivasubramanian, whom the gang had actually targetted to kill, Radhakrishnan said. The three arrested included Kandasamy, brother-in law of Sivasubramanian, and a 62-year old retired SI, relative of Sivagami. The death of Vetrivel, who was a member of Special Task Force that gunned down forest brigand Veerappan in 2004, evoked a national outcry with AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa demanding sacking of the two ministers, alleging they did not help the policeman Vetrivel's body was buried with full police honours at Mullikulam in Tirunelveli district as hundreds of residents paid homage while the two ministers kept away. Forty-four-year-old Vetrivel, a member of the Special Task Force that gunned down forest brigand Veerappan in 2004, lay in a pool of blood with a leg severed and begged for help after the attack by a gang at Alwarkuruchi on Thursday shortly before the ministerial convoy was to pass by
